When people hear the word "choir," they usually picture rows of singers all blending into one big sound. That's a wonderful thing, and it's exactly what some of my other groups do beautifully. TheatreSong Collective was built to be something else. It's a place where the group sound matters, and so does the individual voice within it.
That's the heart of musical theatre. A big ensemble number can give you goosebumps. Often it's the solo moment right before or after it, one character stepping forward, one voice cutting through, that stays with you longest. TheatreSong is built around that balance.
Room to be part of the crowd, and room to stand out
In TheatreSong, you'll spend plenty of time singing as part of the full group, finding your line in the harmony and enjoying the lift that comes from voices blending. You'll also have genuine opportunities to step into solos and small group numbers if you want to. Nobody is pushed into the spotlight before they're ready. The spotlight is there, though, and over time, most people find themselves drawn to it.
That's a different kind of singing experience from a traditional choir. It brings a different kind of confidence, too. Members tell me it changes how they think about their own voice. It stops being just one part of a bigger sound and becomes something that can carry a song on its own.
A relaxed, theatrical style
Musical theatre is about character and story as much as it's about hitting the right notes. Rehearsals reflect that. They're lively and good fun, with plenty of room for personality. Some numbers are easy to pick up, perfect for newer singers finding their feet. Others are more demanding and will stretch you properly. That mix means there's always something within reach, whatever your experience.
You don't need to read music to take part. I bring the guidance and materials you need, and we build the songs together at a pace that works for the room.
Why now is a great time to join
We're still early in the rehearsal process for our next concert, which makes this a good moment to come along. The songs are still taking shape, so you won't be playing catch-up. You'll be in there from close to the beginning, learning them alongside everyone else. The group will help you settle in. That's simply how TheatreSong works.
Some choirs wind down for the summer and won't pick up again until September. TheatreSong keeps rehearsing right through. If you've been thinking about joining a singing group but didn't want to wait months for the "right" starting point, this is it.
Come and see for yourself
TheatreSong Collective meets every Monday evening, 7:15–9:15pm, in Gata de Gorgos. Maybe you're a musical theatre devotee who knows every lyric to your favourite show. Maybe you've never sung in a group before, but have always wanted to try. Either way, there's a place for you here.
Come along and find your spot in the harmony. You might just find your spotlight, too.
