The participants of Philip Ashley's "Sing For Fun" workshops have spent the summer singing a varied selection of music. To finish off this season of workshops the group will be presentation the songs they have learned in a concert called "Celebration of Song" on Friday 24th September at the Benissa Casa de Cultura. The concert also includes performances from Sounds Familiar, Adagio, Sue Benson, and Jo Baldwin.
Music from the workshops includes the opening number from Chess called Merano, I'm a Believer from the Monkees, Somebody to Love by Queen, but sung in the style of Glee, and a vocal only arrangement of The Lion Sleeps Tonight.
Each of the sungs was chosen to work on a specific aspect of singing such as breath control, diction, phrasing and voice control for close harmony singing. With a musical range stretching from Choral to Rock the singers have also had to learn how to change the way they sound for each number.
The regular cast from Sounds Familiar will be perfomring a few numbers from their recent show "Musical Magic". Adagio, the vocal quartet, will give a small selection including A Chorus Line and The Beatles. Sue Benson, also from Adagio, has selected a few numbers from her Benidorm Cabaret show. The Musical Director of the English Choir, and Coral Clásica Javiense, Jo Baldwin will be singing a range of showtunes.
The concert begins at 8pm with tickets priced at 12 euros. 25% of the ticket sales will be given directly to the Lions Club of Calpe and Benissa so they can continue their charitable work in the community.
Tickets are available from members of the cast, or by telephone on 96 558 1483. You can also buy tickets by credit card or PayPal by using the form below.
